Visitors: Circle of Friends

Hi!

How are you? What progress are you making with inclusion in your team, organisation, and community? There are more and more stories of inclusion happening in really creative ways across the UK. All very heart warming. There are also painful stories of struggles, fights and exclusion. There are also stories of peace and collaboration contrasting with those of war and domination. We still have a long way to go.

Because we can change the world

We had an excellent 'Because we can change the world' conference yesterday in Nottingham...lots of great feedback Thanks to all those who attended for making it so successful! Doug Fisher and Mara Sapon-Shevin gave complementary inputs, which included new concepts, ideas, practical strategies encouragement and song!

National US Inclusive Schools Week (Dec. 3-7)

We thought you might be interested in this:

Two new papers focusing on our slogan, "Inclusive Schools: Good for Kids,Families, & Communities," are now available on our Web site:

http://www.edc.org/urban/nisw.html. The first paper by Ilene Schwartz

(University of Washington) and Charlene Green (Clark County School

District, Las Vegas) addresses why inclusive schools are good for kids, the second by Marquita Grenot-Scheyer (California State University), Dee Spinkston (Urban Pride), and Julie Woods (Loving Your Disabled Child) addresses why inclusive schools are good for families. A third paper by Gwen Meyer, Rhonda Griffiths, and Nadia Sampson, with parent interviews conducted by Carolyn Moore (all of the National Institute), addressing why inclusive schools are good for communities, will be released on our Web site next week.

Read each paper, and then discuss these topics online with the authors, other educators, and families during our upcoming forums:

Why are Inclusive Schools Good for Kids? - November 12-16

Why are Inclusive Schools Good for Families? - November 26-30

Why are Inclusive Schools Good for Communities? - December 3-7 (National

Inclusive Schools Week!)

Access the forums at http://www.edc.org/urban/forum.html. We look forward

to hearing from you.
